Encapsulating an event as far-reaching as World War II in a single volume is a daunting feat—but one that Donald Sommerville accomplishes masterfully in this authoritative account. Taking us from the aftermath of World War I through the defeat of the Third Reich and the Japanese empire, The Complete Illustrated History of World War II presents the full scope of the conflict, along with 500 evocative photographs that bring it to vivid life.
The text, which covers the factors leading up to the conflict, the key turning points of the war and the impact of new technologies, is just the beginning. Color campaign maps and battle plans complement rich descriptions of every major engagement. Special features dedicated to weaponry describe everything from escort carriers to rockets and the atom bomb, with specifications for each weapon providing its key technical details. And fact boxes offer close-up views of the war’s most important political and military leaders, from Hitler, Roosevelt and Churchill to General Douglas MacArthur and Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.
Concise but wide-ranging, The Complete Illustrated History of World War II packs an impressive amount into a single volume.

They say that pictures are worth a thousand words. It is true when you look at this book you can almost feel like you were there. The pictures are amazing. Some of them make you wonder how the photographer was able to capture the event. It added to the history of World War II. The accounts of the events was good and then you add a picture and it is even better. As a history buff this is a great add to my collection and would seriously recommend it to all history buffs.
