Armored vehicles have come along way since their humble origins in World War I. Robert Jackson’s Tanks and Armored Fighting Vehicles Visual Encyclopedia is a chronologically arranged tour of more than 1,200 tanks, jeeps, trucks, infantry and amphibious vehicles, self-propelled artillery and armored cars built in the last 100 years. From the Abrams Sherman tank to the Austin-Putilov armored car to the Jagdpanzer IV tank destroyer, each vehicle is illustrated with color artwork in profile or three-quarter view, showing in detail the different features and color schemes used. For anyone interested in this all-important facet of military hardware, Tanks and Armoured Fighting Vehicles Visual Encyclopedia is an essential reference.

This book is a good find for thoose wanting the most up-to-date basic info on tanks and armour vehicles, (2010). But does not give is cut-away views and only the most basic of information.

Just what the doctor ordered! It is so nice to actually have pictures and data for the vehicles you run into while wargaming. As the days of comprehensive manuals are long gone into history, this book was kind of like stepping back into the Kampfgruppe manual addendums. Now I have pictures and data to correlate with the icons on my computer screen. There is just enough history with most vehicles to help explain the "Why didn't they fix that?" questions without bogging you down with personal diaries and procurement procedure hassles. All-in-all a good mix of data you wished they had at the Library.

I've haven't finished this book as yet but I like what I've seen and read thus far. Profile views are excellent but I wish there were more 3/4 views. Excellent reference book for classic AFVs and insight/recognition to the lesser known models. I'm enjoying the book.
