Nancy Atherton is a former freelance proofreader and rare book bibliographer who has also worked at a dude ranch, a ski lodge and a day care center. Her title character, the spectral Aunt Dimity, is named for the smallest bell in Dorothy L. Sayers' The Nine Tailors and for the dimity dresses worn by the ladies in Georgette Heyer's Regency novels. Dimity's first appearance was in Aunt Dimity's Death, which was named one of the 100 Best Mysteries of the 20th Century by the American Association of Independent Booksellers. Atherton was born in Chicago and raised in Oak Park. She now lives in Downstate Illnois, next to a large cornfield. Books by Nancy Atherton
